DUBAI: APT Global Marine and Offshore Engineering UAE has successfully completed the responsible recycling of the container vessel Wan Hai 503 at Dubai Drydocks World, marking a significant milestone for sustainable ship recycling in the Middle East. The project is being hailed as a benchmark for environmentally responsible, safe, and fully compliant ship dismantling, demonstrating the region’s growing capability to undertake complex recycling operations in accordance with international regulations.

The recycling of Wan Hai 503 was carried out in full conformity with the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (HKC) and the Basel Convention. The Wan Hai 503, a container vessel operated by Wan Hai Lines, underwent dismantling under a detailed Ship Recycling Plan (SRP) prepared and executed by APT Global’s specialist engineering and compliance team. The comprehensive plan addressed every aspect of the recycling operation, including facility preparedness, environmental management systems, worker health and safety measures, emergency response procedures and complete traceability of recovered materials.

The technical assessment was carried out under the full support and direction of APT Global Chief Operating Officer Robby Van den Branden, ensuring that the engineering solutions complied with both operational safety requirements and international regulatory standards.

In addition to the engineering analysis, the mandatory Inventory of Hazardous Materials procedures were also completed as part of the regulatory process, ensuring complete documentation of hazardous substances before dismantling activities began.
