Strengthening Indo-Nordic Ties: Norwegian Students and Interns Gather in Mumbai for Academic and Industry Exchange

MUMBAI — In a bid to deepen bilateral academic connections and offer practical industry exposure, Norwegian students and interns stationed across India gathered in Mumbai over the weekend for a collaborative exchange initiative hosted with Norwegian enterprises and premier Indian academic institutions.
Organised by Elisabeth Strand Vigtel, Counsellor for Science, Technology, and Higher Education at Innovation Norway, the multi-day event brought together young scholars and researchers to explore Norway’s growing commercial and diplomatic footprint in India.
The delegation visited the specialised laboratories of Borregaard, a global leader in biochemicals. During the technical tour, researchers demonstrated how wood-based biopolymers are developed as sustainable, renewable alternatives to fossil fuels, serving diverse sectors such as concrete admixtures, industrial solutions, and plant nutrition.
The cohort also attended an interactive session at the Royal Norwegian Consulate General led by Rashmi GV Aradhya and Mitali Das of Laerdal Medical, a company renowned for healthcare simulation and education. Beyond reviewing the company’s mission to reduce global mortality rates, the students participated in a practical workshop, practicing CPR protocols on advanced simulation manikins.
A central highlight of the weekend was the interdisciplinary dialogue bridging Indian academia and Norwegian enterprise. The gathering convened students, researchers, and representatives affiliated with several of India’s top higher education institutions, including the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Roorkee, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai, and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).
The exchange provided a platform for students spanning various disciplines to network, discuss ongoing bilateral initiatives, and explore research-to-market pathways within the expanding India–Norway partnership.
