India Unveils ‘Naukosh’: Nation’s First Digital Portal to Anchor Shipbuilding and Repair Ecosystem

NEW DELHI — In a major push toward establishing India as a formidable global maritime hub, the government has announced the development of Naukosh, the nation’s first comprehensive digital portal dedicated entirely to the shipbuilding and ship repair industry. Targeted to go live by the end of 2026, the unified platform aims to streamline operations, enhance transparency, and consolidate the country’s fragmented maritime sector.

Aligned with the strategic roadmaps of Maritime India Vision 2030 (MIV 2030) and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 (MAKV 2047), Naukosh is designed to serve as a digital bridge connecting key industry participants across the maritime lifecycle.

The portal will bring together:

  • Shipyards and specialized ship repair units

  • Maritime regulators and international classification societies

  • Domestic and global shipowners

  • Marine equipment manufacturers and ancillary suppliers

  • Maritime financiers, underwriters, and insurers

  • Maritime training institutes, universities, and research bodies

Introducing the initiative, Shri Pradeep Sudhakar, Chief Ship Surveyor, outlined the long-term vision of Naukosh, emphasizing its role in modernizing domestic capabilities. “Naukosh is envisioned as an engine of integration,” Sudhakar noted, highlighting how seamless data sharing, verified business directories, and regulatory alignment will empower Indian shipyards to compete at international standards.

Beyond basic industry networking, Naukosh will provide actionable business intelligence, market analytics, and visibility into upcoming commercial tenders and investment opportunities. Crucially, the platform will offer direct access to government incentives, maritime subsidies, and specialized financial assistance schemes designed to bolster local manufacturing and fleet expansion. Information on workforce upskilling, certification pathways, and academic research partnerships will also be hosted directly on the site.

As development progresses toward the late-2026 rollout, maritime authorities will invite stakeholders nationwide to register verified profiles, review portal architecture, and provide direct feedback during consultations.

With global supply chains actively diversifying and demand rising for green and alternative-fuel vessels, industry experts view Naukosh as a timely intervention. By dismantling operational silos and fostering cross-sector collaboration, the initiative marks a decisive step toward realizing India’s ambition of building a self-reliant, globally competitive shipbuilding and repair powerhouse.
