APSEZ Earns Top Marks in Global Climate and Environmental Ratings
“Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has been recognized as a leader in climate actions and environmental performance by four global rating agencies. The CDP, in particular, awarded APSEZ with an “A-” rating, acknowledging the company’s dedication to adopting best practices to address climate change risks and opportunities.
This assessment involved over 23,000 companies worldwide, representing a significant portion of the global market. APSEZ stood out with an “A” rating for its initiatives to reduce emissions, manage climate risks, and govern climate-related processes. This achievement is noteworthy as only a few companies reach this leadership level each year.
In addition to the CDP recognition, APSEZ also claimed the top spot in the environmental category of the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) 2023 within the Global Transportation and Transportation Infrastructure sector. This sector encompasses various transportation businesses, including marine ports, shipping, air, road, rail transport, logistics, and mass transit systems. APSEZ’s consistent improvement in climate indicators and strategy earned it the highest position in this assessment.
Moreover, APSEZ excelled in the Sustainalytics Low Carbon Transition Rating, ranking first in the ports sector during the January 2024 update. This rating evaluates a company’s projected emissions alignment with global net zero targets. While APSEZ’s current emissions align with a 1.7°C temperature rise, the company has committed to achieving net zero by 2040, a decade ahead of the global requirement to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C.
Sustainalytics also assessed APSEZ’s environmental performance, including biodiversity, land use, emission and pollution control, and waste management, and assigned a low to negligible risk rating due to the company’s robust risk management framework.
Furthermore, Moody’s recognized APSEZ’s leadership position with an ‘Advanced’ rating in the Energy Transition Rating, reflecting the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship. In a previous evaluation, Moody’s ranked APSEZ first in the Transport and Logistics sector and ninth overall across all sectors/industries in the Global Emerging Markets.
In India, APSEZ topped the ESG performance rankings across all sectors, outperforming 4,885 companies evaluated globally by the rating agencies. APSEZ’s transformation from a port company to an Integrated Transport Utility, offering end-to-end solutions, underscores its evolution and commitment to sustainability.”
