Bomb Threat Prompts Security Sweep on Israel-Bound Cruise Ship in Greek Port

ATHENS — A security operation was launched at the Greek island port of Syros after an anonymous bomb threat targeted an Israel-bound cruise ship, authorities said.

The Panama-flagged Crown Iris, operated by the Israeli company Mano Maritime, was preparing to depart for Haifa with 940 passengers and 597 crew members on board when the alert was triggered.

According to Greek officials, an unidentified caller claimed that an explosive device had been attached to the ship’s hull. The warning prompted emergency procedures, leading authorities to disembark passengers and crew while security forces carried out a detailed inspection.

Hellenic Coast Guard officers, supported by an explosives-detection dog and a private diver, conducted underwater and onboard searches of the vessel. A specialized coast guard bomb disposal unit was also dispatched to carry out further sweeps. Israeli security and defense officials coordinated with Greek authorities throughout the response.

Initial and secondary inspections found no explosive devices or suspicious objects on board. Following the all-clear from port authorities, passengers and crew were permitted to reboard, and the cruise ship was cleared to resume its scheduled voyage to Haifa.

The incident occurred alongside several other false bomb scares reported across European transport hubs on the same day, including disruptions affecting multiple commercial flights.
