A Landmark in Alang: Leela Group and ISTD Bhavnagar Empower Workforce with Soft Skills- Finance- AI & Wellness
For the first time in Alang, the world’s largest ship recycling hub hosted a professional training conference in collaboration with the Indian Society for Training & Development (ISTD), Bhavnagar Chapter. The event, proudly partnered by Leela Group of Ship Recycling Yards, marked a milestone in bringing structured professional development directly to Alang’s workforce.
The conference focused on building a future-ready workforce through essential topics such as soft skills and personal development, mindfulness and wellness, financial literacy, and the application of AI/ML in the workplace. By covering these diverse yet interconnected areas, the program ensured participants gained knowledge that extends beyond technical expertise to holistic personal and professional growth.
The program began with a welcome tea and breakfast, followed by a presentation from Mr. Prabhat Kumar, Chairman of ISTD Bhavnagar Chapter and Vice President – HSEQEn & Naval Architecture, Leela Group, who outlined the mission and vision of ISTD to promote training and development across industries and institutions. He also highlighted the various activities undertaken by the ISTD Bhavnagar Chapter in advancing training and development initiatives in Bhavnagar.
The inaugural ceremony featured the lighting of the Diya by Chief Guest Mr. Vishaal Soni, CEO, Leela Group, along with ISTD office bearers including Mr. Prabhat Kumar, Mr. Bhautik Daxini (Hon. Secretary), and Mr. Shekhar Suman (Hon. Treasurer). In his address, Mr. Vishaal Soni highlighted that collaboration with professional societies like ISTD creates unique opportunities for the workforce in Alang—without the need to travel to metro cities to access such high-quality training. He was presented with a token of appreciation for his support and vision.
The event was further enriched by the presence of 10 members from ISTD Anand Chapter and Regional Vice President (West), ISTD, Dr. Raju Rathod, who also delivered a training session. A distinguished panel of trainers—Dr. Parth Panday (Hon. Secretary, ISTD Rajkot Chapter), Prof. Hem Bhatt, Mr. Devdatta Pathak (Founding Chairman, ISTD Bhavnagar Chapter), and Dr. Raju Rathod—shared expertise on the wide-ranging topics, leaving participants inspired and better equipped to face modern workplace challenges.
Anchored seamlessly by Mr. Anirudha Shetty and Mr. Bhanu Pratap, the conference ran smoothly and on schedule. Special recognition was given to the HSE team of Leela Group for volunteering and ensuring flawless execution of the event.
The conference concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks by Mr. Bhautik Daxini. Participants, including RVP (West) Dr. Raju Rathod, commended the meticulous planning and execution while appreciating the groundbreaking initiative of hosting such a professional training program in Alang for the very first time.
