IIUC Students Visit KR Ship Recycling Yard to Learn About Sustainable Practices
Chittagong, November 9, 2025 — KR Ship Recycling Yard had the pleasure of hosting a group of students from the International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) today. The visit provided young scholars with firsthand exposure to the practical aspects of sustainable ship recycling and environmental management, which are becoming increasingly vital in the modern maritime industry.

The delegation, comprising enthusiastic students and a few faculty members, toured the KR facility to understand how end-of-life vessels are dismantled and recycled in a safe and environmentally sound manner. Yard officials explained the processes involved in compliance with international standards such as the Hong Kong Convention (HKC) and highlighted how the company integrates sustainability into every stage of operations — from hazardous waste handling to steel recovery.
The management of KR Ship Recycling Yard emphasized that such educational visits play a key role in shaping future maritime professionals. “At KR, we always welcome young minds who are eager to learn about safe, responsible, and environmentally sound recycling practices,” a company representative stated. “By sharing our on-ground experience, we hope to inspire students to contribute to a greener and safer maritime future.”
Throughout the visit, IIUC students engaged in interactive sessions with the yard’s technical and safety teams, gaining valuable insights into the importance of proper worker training, use of personal protective equipment, and the continuous monitoring of environmental parameters.
The visit concluded with a note of appreciation from KR Ship Recycling Yard to the IIUC delegation for their curiosity and enthusiasm. Both parties expressed interest in continuing such knowledge-sharing collaborations to strengthen the link between academia and industry.
KR Ship Recycling Yard reaffirmed its commitment to supporting educational initiatives that promote awareness about sustainable ship recycling, contributing to Bangladesh’s leadership in responsible shipbreaking on the global stage.
