ALANG bound ship arrested
It is often heard about the theft of small items and vehicles, but it seems strange that a sea vessel has been stolen. The Gujarat High Court ordered the arrest of the BEREG MECHTY, which had arrived for breaking up at the Alang Ship Breaking Yard in India, and the concerned government departments have taken action accordingly.
A dead vessel BEREG MECHTY, towed by tug Ajax, purchased by Plot No. 124 of Alang Ship Breaking Yard (owner of United Ship Breaking Company Javedbhai Lakhani) of 7263 mt LDT deadweight at anchorage dt. According to Javedbhai Lakhani of United Ship Breaking Company, the end buyer of the ship, they have bought the ship of Delta Link Pte Ltd from GSTL DMCC Dubai and have also paid the price of 33.50 lakh dollars. The ship reached Alang Anchorage on 26th August, boarding was done on 31st by agencies including customs, NOC was issued after all verifications. Suddenly there is an arrest warrant for the ship. Two and a half months earlier the ship had left the final port for final voyage, taking fuel, and rations at 4 places on the way. The AIS, radar of the tug Ajax that towed the ship is on, so it is not clear that the ship was stolen, we are getting a legal opinion and will proceed accordingly in court.
