ClassNK Delegation Visits Priya Blue Ship Recycling Facility at Alang

Priya Blue Industries Ltd. recently hosted a high-level delegation from ClassNK at its ship recycling facility located at the Alang Ship Recycling Yard in Gujarat, marking another significant step in strengthening long-standing professional ties between the two organizations.

The visit underscored the close collaboration that Priya Blue and ClassNK have built over the years—one rooted in mutual trust, transparency, and a shared commitment to responsible and sustainable ship recycling practices. The engagement provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on evolving regulatory standards, environmental stewardship, and best practices within the global maritime and ship recycling sectors.

The ClassNK delegation was led by Dr. Y. Yamaguchi, Executive Vice President of ClassNK, reflecting the importance the classification society places on its partnership with Indian recycling yards that are at the forefront of compliance and sustainability. Dr. Yamaguchi was accompanied by Mr. Y. Iga, Regional Manager for the Middle East and South Asia; Mr. D. Shiraki, Manager from the Business Department in Tokyo; Mr. Sumithran Sampath, General Manager for India and Sri Lanka; Mr. K. Ohnishi, Staff Member from the Business Department, Tokyo; Mr. Ryuya Taniguchi, Technical Staff and Ship Recycling Facility (SRF) Auditor from the Green Certification Department, ClassNK Japan; and Mr. Prashant Belnekar, Deputy Manager and Ship Recycling Facility Auditor based in Mumbai.

During the visit, the delegation undertook a comprehensive tour of the Priya Blue yard, gaining first-hand insight into its operational processes, safety protocols, and environmental management systems. Particular attention was given to procedures aligned with the Hong Kong International Convention (HKC) and other international guidelines governing safe and environmentally sound ship recycling.

Members of the ClassNK team expressed their appreciation for the quality of infrastructure at the facility and for Priya Blue’s demonstrated commitment to sustainability, worker safety, and regulatory compliance. The discussions also highlighted the growing role of Indian yards in setting global benchmarks for responsible ship recycling.
