In a seminar held at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka, experts gathered to discuss the vast opportunities lying within Bangladesh’s shipbuilding and ship recycling sectors. The seminar, hosted by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh, highlighted the need for knowledge and technology to fully tap into this potential.
The event, graced by Md Mostafa Kamal, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, witnessed the active participation of key figures. Irma van Dueren, the ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, welcomed attendees and emphasized the importance of collaboration. Thijs Woudstra, Deputy Ambassador of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, provided insights into the activities during the Netherlands Marine days in Bangladesh, introducing Dutch companies and organizations involved.

Commodore Mohammad Maksud Alam, Director General of the Department of Shipping, presented a paper titled ‘Future Maritime and Shipping Requirements in Bangladesh’, emphasizing the enormous possibilities present in the shipbuilding and recycling sectors. Evert den Broek, in his presentation titled ‘The Maritiem Future is now: Sustainable Solutions from the Netherlands’, highlighted how the Dutch maritime sector is pioneering innovations to create eco-friendly port cities and develop zero-emission shipping solutions.
Speaking at the event, Md Mostafa Kamal reiterated the strong bond between Bangladesh and the Netherlands, particularly in areas such as water management and economic development. He stressed the need for strengthening cooperation channels between the two nations.
The seminar also showcased the active involvement of 15 Netherlands Maritime companies representing diverse sectors, including shipbuilding, port infrastructure, and delta technology. Their presence underscored the robust ties between the countries and their shared interest in advancing maritime and offshore industries.
Alongside the seminar, a three-day exhibition titled ‘Bangladesh International Marine and Offshore Expo, 2023 (BIMOX-2023)’ was inaugurated. The exhibition, organized by Savor International Limited, featured various sectors such as shipbuilding, ship recycling, offshore oil and gas support, shipping, logistics, and fisheries.

Chief Guest Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, State Minister for Shipping, inaugurated the BIMOX-2023 exhibition, emphasizing the significance of such platforms in fostering industry growth and international collaborations.
The BIMOX-2023 exhibition and the Netherlands pavilion are open to all visitors, promoting knowledge exchange and partnerships. The event will continue until October 14, providing ample opportunities for stakeholders to explore, learn, and collaborate in shaping the future of Bangladesh’s maritime industry.
