A crew member from the Viking Mars, believed to be in his 40s, was transported by helicopter to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after an unfortunate incident at the Port of Cromarty Firth in Invergordon.
The incident came to attention around 11:00 on Friday, prompting the dispatch of two ambulances, a helicopter, and a trauma team to the location.

However, Viking Mars stated on Sunday that the crew member, whose identity has not been revealed, had succumbed to his injuries.
In an official statement, the company expressed their sorrow: “We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of a crew member as a result of an incident in Scotland on August 18th. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the crew member’s family, and we are committed to providing them with the necessary support during this challenging period. Our top priority remains the safety and well-being of our crew and passengers. We are collaborating with local authorities in partnership with our operations team to ascertain the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.”

Police Scotland reported on Friday that they had received information about a man falling from the ship at Saltburn Pier.
On Sunday, a police spokesperson revealed, “Emergency services responded, and the man was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by helicopter. Unfortunately, he passed away a few hours later. A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
Earlier, law enforcement officers had noted that the Health and Safety Executive had been informed of the incident.
